Description
I really liked the charging dock that came with the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller, where you can pick it up and set it down nicely. The Steam Controller is also quite large and takes up a lot of space. This lowers its footprint a little, and looks good doin' it.
I used the models provided by Valve to shape the dock exactly to the controller. The opening for the puck has a slight overhang that grabs the bezel so that the face of the puck sits flush with the surface, ensuring proper connection to the controller.
When grabbing the controller from the dock, it works best if you push down slightly and rotate it away from the top. This makes it easy to grab with one hand without bringing the dock with it.
Layer height: Follow your heart
Supports: Paint organic supports where pictured to support the overhangs at the top. The 30° angle of the first overhang is going to be challenging. If you slow printing speed way down there, it'll print. It won't look great on the underside, but you'll never see that part anyway.
You could alternatively print the dock on its side, but you risk poor adhesion.
Infill: 20%+
Most of the strength comes from the calls, but higher infill helps add weight.
