Description
I had about 10 of these older model zigbee IKEA TRÅDFRI button/dimmer switches that are very useful but the battery life is abysmal. I created an enclosure that allows you to upgrade your switch with a new enclosure that allows 2xAAA batteries.
Tools: Soldering Iron, solder
Materials:
2x M2.5 threaded inserts
2x M2.5 screws, 10mm (other lengths work too), socket cap
1 x Battery tray https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804638805820.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.106.7df21802z2mMdD&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa
2-4 x 12x2mm magnets, depending on which wall mount you print (note that the original remote has 1 12x2 magnet you can reuse for this)
Instructions:
1) Pop open the original tradfri switch at the base with a screwdriver, extract just the PCB, discard the membrane layer and plastic body, save the magnet if desired.
2) Solder the battery tray to the PCB battery terminals
3) Put the circuit board in the new body, switches in the top and bottom position, from the back the pairing button should be on the left.
4) install the switch by gently stretching the top of the body to fit the two pegs into the two slots in the body, creating a rocking button action similar to the original remote. Feel free to glue the PCB down and or shave down the two little pegs on the button if the fit is not exact.
5) Glue in magnets into back cover, install back cover over battery tray.
