UPDATE V1.2

  • Added the Great Hall Location and Gear Pages from the Screaming God expansion.

UPDATE V1.1

  • Fixed a mistake on "Blacksmith - Gear Page 2.STL" where the text was not cut out.

  • Added optional mirrored versions of gear pages for locations with a single gear page, that way you can have the location card on one side and the gear cards on the other. Note: this uses the same text STL as the original gear page. Also you'll have to flip the page over in your slicer since it is upside down.

For example: To print the Barber Surgean you would print the following:

Barber Surgeon - Location.STL    &    Barber Surgeon - Location (NAME).STL

Barber Surgeon - Gear Page - Mirrored.STL    &    Barber Surgeon - Gear Page (NAME).STL

Mirrored versions of these files can be found in: "Named Gear Pages - Mirrored Gear V1.1.zip"

INTRODUCTION

This is my take on a way to store your gear / location cards for Kingdom Death.

CARD SLEEVES

I designed these to fit sleeved cards. The sleeves I use are as follows:

  • Gear Cards - https://paladinsleeves.com/product/palamedes-mini-square-card-sleeves-51x51-mm/

  • Location Cards - https://www.docsmagic.de/50-Docsmagicde-Premium-Custom-Size-Board-Game-Sleeves-101-x-203-104-x-205-Kingdom-Death-Brettspiehuellen

Note: I used the same sleeves for the Location Extension cards, but cut them shorter.

If you use different card sleeves, they may not fit. Let me know and I can upload files with different dimensions. I highly recommend printing the test square first. The test square is supposed to fit three cards easily and a fourth card without too much fuss. This way it accommodates those weapons with four cards.

Don't forget to test many different cards. I found some card sleeves were different sizes even within the same brand.

WHAT TO PRINT

   There are a few options:

First and foremost I recommend printing test squares. There are three options:

  • Test Gear Square - 55x54 - 1.STL

  • Test Gear Square - 55x54 - 3.STL

  • Test Extension Square 92x105.6 Square - 1.STL

The first two hold gear cards, with the last number representing how many cards it is designed for. The Test Extension is to see if extension cards will fit. There are two different sizes of extensions, what really matters is the card fits in the width. You can also test whether location cards fit the width as well.

Blank pages with either a flat space for labeling or no flat space. These are in the zip file: Blank Location & Gear Pages.zip. Just print what you want / need to store your stuff.

Alternatively you can print the pages with embedded names. These have a separate STL file for EVERY page (164 total STLs). Note that the naming text is a separate STL that you load into your slicer with the associated page as a multi-part print. For example "Bone Smith - Location.STL" holds the location card and "Bone Smith - Location (NAME).STL" has the text for the location.

This makes setting the text as a different color easier, plus you can print the text with different settings (For example: smaller extrusion widths).

Also note there a few unique ones in the named sets. For example, Sanguine Extrusion has a couple double sided slots to allow more cards on one page. Green Knight Armor has openings in the back so you can see the recipe for the gear without taking the cards out.

HOW TO PRINT

These are designed to print without supports. That being said, you may not be able to print them on default settings. Some tweaking to get a nice clean print may be required. The biggest issue I had was the overhang curling up when it cooled and shrank.

I highly recommend printing the small test square first, not only to see if your cards will fit, but also to test your slicer settings.

Here are the settings that I found give me the best results. I have a Prusa XL and these were printed with Prusament Galaxy Black mostly, but I have done it with a variety of other filaments.

  • Nozzle Size - 0.4mm

  • Layer Height - 0.2mm

  • Perimeters - 2

  • Extrusion Width - External Perimeters - 0.8mm

  • Slow down if layer print time is below - 30 seconds

The most important setting is the external extrusion width. This extrusion width makes a nice wide line of plastic that can overhang, instead of multiple smaller lines more prone to shrinking.

As for the 30 second slow down, that ensures you don't keep laying plastic on top of layers that haven't had time to cool down yet. If it hasn't had time to cool before the next layer is applied, shrinking becomes more of an issue. This is especially important for the small test squares.

MAGNETS

The design allows for multiple methods of binding pages together. You can use string, straps, or even print binding clips. The method I chose to go with is magnets, as shown in the pictures. I used N52 cylindrical magnets, 2mm diameter x 1mm high. These are the ones I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FNX14SKB

These magnets are TINY! Placing them by hand is practically impossible. After struggling with needle nose pliers for a bit, I designed and printed a simple insertion tool. You can find the model here:

Basically you glue a magnet with the positive side up on one tool and the negative side up in the other tool. That way you stick a magnet to the end and can easily press it into place. I used ZAP-A-GAP Medium CA+ glue for affixing all my magnets.

As far as my magnet layout, I would glue positive on the top and negative on the back of each page. To keep locations from sticking together, I didn't glue magnets in the top of the first page and the bottom of the last page. That way they stay as location bundles together.
