Description
Has the curved yoke of your beloved Audio-Technica ATH-M50x broken, or do you want to make sure it never does? A quick internet search will reveal that, unfortunately, this structural failure is a very common issue and usually just a matter of time. In my case, it happened after about 4 years of daily use.
This single-piece design offers an instant fix, but you don't need to wait for your headphones to break to print it. You can install it right now as a preventative reinforcement to shield the original structure, add extra durability for the future, and protect your headset before any damage occurs.
This clip is engineered with precise mechanical tolerances to perfectly hug the curvature of the headband. Best of all: it requires no glue, screws, or permanent modifications. Thanks to its geometry, it provides a flawless snap-fit and stays firmly in place through friction.
I've been using it daily for months with fantastic results: the joint maintains the perfect clamping force on the ear, and the repair/reinforcement is so clean that it integrates seamlessly into the headphones' aesthetics. Whenever people come over, they ask me where I bought them!
Dual Function: Works perfectly either as an instant repair or as a preventative shield/reinforcement.
Single-Piece Design: Print a single model and fix the issue at its root.
Support-Free: Geometrically optimized to print cleanly without any support material.
Perfect Fit: Tight tolerances for a secure grip that won't slip during movement.
Since this part is designed with very thin walls, the infill setting is crucial for its mechanical strength:
Recommended Material: PETG (highly recommended for its excellent impact resistance and the flexibility needed to endure mechanical fatigue during installation). PLA also works well due to its rigidity, but be careful when flexing it open for the snap-fit.
Infill: 100%. Because the walls are very thin, there is no point in using a lower percentage. Printing it completely solid is what provides the necessary structural strength (when using 100% infill, the wall/perimeter count becomes irrelevant).
Supports: No (Not required).
Layer Height: 0.2 mm.
Align the printed clip with the curvature of the headphone arm.
Press firmly but carefully to snap it over the original structure until you hear or feel it click perfectly into place from end to end.
Done! Your headphones are instantly protected or repaired.

📌 Compatibility Note & Community Feedback: While the ATH-M40x shares the exact same folding chassis and yoke dimensions as the M50x (making it highly likely to be fully compatible), I only own the M50x and cannot physically test it on other models such as the M40x, M30x, or M20x.
If you download this design and try it on any other version of the ATH series, please consider leaving a comment or posting a Make to confirm the fit. Your feedback will be incredibly helpful to the rest of the community looking to save their headphones!
