Description
This is a simple screw-in plug that fits into the female end of a garden hose that has the U.S. standard .75"-11.5 NH thread. This is a very common thread size and fits on most hoses. Its purpose is to plug the end of a hose or other equipment with this fitting size. The regular model has about 6 threads. The short version has about 4 threads.
NOTE:Â Â Â This model, being 3D printed, will likely not have the strength or precision fit of a commercial injection molded piece. It is not intended to be leak free or to withstand the water pressure of a fully pressurized hose. Also, typically a garden hose has a male and a female end, with the female end attached to the water spigot, and the male end attached to an accessory (sprayer, sprinkler, etc.). This model is essentially a plug for accessories to protect the threads and block dirt and debris (and spiders) from accumulating in the accessory. See photos.
I made this model so that I could plug the water inlet on my lawn mower (Toro 22" Recycler). A hose can be connected to the mower deck and when the water is turned on with the mower running, the underside of the deck gets cleaned. It generally works pretty well. However, when the hose is not attached, the fitting and gasket on the mower get dirty from normal use of the mower. This plug is a simple way to keep the fitting fairly clean in-between cleanings. I made the shorter version because the fitting on the mower is more shallow than many hose ends.
I printed with Basic PLA, Black, 100% Infill, 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2 layer height, 5 perimeters X, Y, & Z.
Thanks to darkfrei on Thingiverse for saving me the time of modeling the threads. :)
