🛠 Welcome to the Ultimate Switch Plate Shelf Project! 🛠
Tired of having nowhere to put your phone while it charges at the wall outlet? This custom-designed light switch cover features a built-in top shelf, making it the perfect, space-saving spot to rest a smartphone, set down your keys, or display small accessories right above your switch panel! It turns an otherwise wasted wall space into a highly functional organizational hub for your bedroom, entryway, or kitchen. 🛋📱
It is the perfect mix of home utility and clean 3D design, fully engineered to print beautifully on modern high-speed machines without requiring complicated supports or advanced print tuning.
The Printer Compatibility: This model is sliced and optimized perfectly for the Bambu Lab P1S, but it will print amazingly on any X1-Series, P1-Series, or A1-Series machine in the Bambu lineup! 🖨
The Filament Choice: Designed specifically for standard PLA Basic. This everyday material keeps the thin vertical walls rigid, ensures the shelf stays perfectly flat without warping, and provides a beautiful gloss or matte finish depending on your brand. 🧵
The Build Plate Surface: Sliced using a Bambu Textured PEI Plate. This gives the bottom surface of the plate a gorgeous, professional matte texture and guarantees great first-layer adhesion so your print won't warp off the bed mid-print. 🪵
To get the exact clean look and structural strength shown in the preview, these specific slicing settings were fine-tuned inside Bambu Studio:
⚡ Super High Quality: Sliced at a crisp 0.16mm layer height. These extra-thin layers make the front slope look incredibly smooth and drastically reduce visible layer lines on the vertical wall segments.
🌀 Advanced Gyroid Infill: Set to 5% Gyroid density. The gyroid pattern provides incredible multi-directional internal strength to hold the weight of your items while saving tons of filament and reducing overall print time!
🧩 Smart & Aligned Seams: The seam position is set to Aligned. This tucks the layer start-and-stop points neatly into the inner corners of the frame so the front face stays completely flawless and free of ugly plastic zits or blobs.
📏 Total Dimensions: 75.3mm x 121.125mm x 49.1002mm (Specially sized to fit standard single-gang toggle switches or rectangular rocker switches perfectly).
⚖ Material Efficiency: Uses just 19.16 grams of plastic (roughly 0.0184 m meters of filament), making it a super cheap, lightweight, and eco-friendly print that costs pennies to make!
⏱ Fast Print Time: Highly optimized toolpaths and minimal infill mean this entire functional print finishes in just 1 hour and 1 minutes!
Putting your new custom wall shelf together takes less than two minutes:
Safety First: For extra safety, you can flip off the breaker to the switch, though you are only touching the plastic outer cover!
Remove the Old Cover: Carefully unscrew and remove your current, boring standard switch plate cover.
Align the New Shelf: Line up this newly 3D-printed shelf cover over the switch toggle or outlet frame.
Secure the Screws: Use your existing standard plate screws to secure it back into the wall outlet box.
Pro Tip: Do not over-tighten the screws! Snug them up gently with a manual hand screwdriver so you do not crack, bend, or stress the newly printed plastic.
I love seeing how people use my designs in their own homes! Whether you use it next to your bed to hold your smart device or by the front door for your house keys, your feedback helps make my models even better.
