Description
These grips are designed to support your wrist while riding your bike and work well as an upgrade or replacement part.
They can be secured on your 22,2 mm handlebar using a screw and to your choice either a heat-set insert or a nut inserted during printing.
This option is great if you have the right materials and tools at hand.
What you'll need:
2x M3 heat-set inserts
2x M3 x 12 mm screws
Tool for pressing in heat-set inserts (soldering iron + tip)
The assembly process is actually quite simple. Heat up the insert to whatever temperature is right for your material and push it in through the hole in the back of the grip. The tricky part is knowing when to stop. I'd recommend looking through the long gap that goes from top to bottom to determine how far the insert is in. In the end it should sit flush with the lower edge of the gap, so if you can't see it anymore through the gap, that's a good sign.
This one doesn't require any special equipment, but you will have to insert a nut mid-print which may be annoying.
What you'll need:
2x M3 nuts
2x M3 x 12 mm screws
Depending on your shifter configuration, you will have to insert two nuts at once or two times one each. Be careful not to knock the print off the print bed while inserting!
I've created the .3mf files using PrusaSlicer and there are two different positions depending on your type of shifter. If you have an integrated rotating shift switch, then you have to print the right grip at a height of Z = 29 mm If not, just print both at the same height.
There is a regional fuzzy skin texture, multi color/material painting and support enforcers. Those come with the .3mf but feel free to change any of that to something that suits your needs.
Infill: 100%
Tree supports for enforcers only
Brim: 5 mm
In my case the black body is made from PLA-CF and the grip surface is TPU 82A. As a rule of thumb, the stiffer the base material and the softer the grip material the better.
Single material printing should also work, but I think material wise you should choose a medium stiff filament. It's a trade off between grip comfort and wrist support.
