Description
A flat, flexible, barbed drain hair snake that rakes hair clogs
out of a shower, bath, or sink drain. Push the tip down the drain,
twist, and pull — the backward-pointing harpoon barbs grab the hair
and drag the clog back out. One-piece print, no supports, no assembly,
no loose parts.
Size: 240 × 30 × 2.6 mm (fits a 256 mm bed straight). Bump
spine_lenin the SCAD and rotate the plate ~45° on the bed for a
longer reach.
Barb geometry. The barbs are harpoon-shaped: the tip-side edge is
a long gentle ramp that slides in past the hair, while the handle-side
edge is a short undercut that catches and holds on the pull. Barbs
alternate left/right every half-pitch for staggered, full-width
coverage. The handle ring doubles as a hang loop and as a stop so the
strip can never disappear down the drain.
Print orientation. Lies flat on the bed; every barb is an in-plane
cut, so it prints with no supports and no brim. The thin strip
flexes out of plane to follow the bend of a P-trap.
Material — use PETG. The barbs are thin cantilevers. **PETG is
strongly preferred** because it flexes; PLA is brittle and snaps the
barbs on the first stubborn clog. Print walls thick, modest infill.
Parametric. Edit the variables at the top of
drain_hair_snake.scadto retune:
spine_len(barbed strip length), thickness(strip / flex member),
barb_len(how far the barbs stick out), barb_back(undercut depth
= catch strength), barb_pitch(spacing per side), and
ring_od/ ring_id(the handle loop).
The gallery shows the printed strip (white) plus isometric and
top-down renders of the barb pattern and finger loop.
