• The Flaming Heart: Held in his right hand, the heart burning with a bright flame represents intense divine love, reflecting his most famous quote from Confessions: "You have pierced our hearts with the arrow of your love."

• The Child and the Spoon: Seated at the base of the sculpture is a child trying to pour the ocean into a small hole with a spoon. According to tradition, when Augustine told the child it was impossible, the youth replied that it was equally impossible for the finite human mind to fully comprehend the infinity of God and the Trinity.

• The Crosier & Vestments: He holds the hooked pastoral staff (crosier) and wears the traditional liturgical cope and mitre, representing his historical role as a shepherd of his community in North Africa.
