Description
This is my first attempt at designing something beyond the basic resizing modifications I have done with other models, so, please give feedback on how I can improve this!
I have had Thermacell butane cartridges and repellent pads floating loosely around my hunting bag and decided that I needed to organize and keep the items together. I searched for cases and only found the Thermacell Fuel and Repellent Holder by Dewey. I needed something that would be closable and fit inside an ammo can or backpack. I also wanted a no hardware requirement, so I made an attempt to create it. I had previously printed a butane refill adapter and repellent pad extraction tool, so I wanted to keep those items together with the cartridges and pads.
This case holds four butane cartridges and, according to Dewey, over 25 repellent pads. The pad storage spaces are also large enough to hold a butane cartridge. The refill adapter and pad extractor have dedicated slots. Removing the adapter and extraction tool may require removing some cartridges, depending on the size of your hands. I tried to make the refill adapter storage snug so the adapter would not fall out. My first model had a hole that was too small. I used a 7mm drill bit to slightly open the hole for a snug fit. I increased the hole size slightly in the model. This case fits nicely inside a .50 caliber ammo can.
The print took approximately 15 hours and 200 grams of filament on the FlashForge Adventurer 5M. I used PETG filament. I was able to fit all parts onto one plate manually. If you autoarrange, FlashStudio will force the model onto two plates (Adventurer 5M). Orient the lid and bottom with the openings facing up and the latches with the angled part facing up. You may need supports for the latch mounts on the lid. I used auto tree organic supports. The hinges and latches are snap in. I found it easiest to install the lid from below and slide the hinges up until they snap into place. The latches are identical, but I included two for efficiency in preparation to print. The flat side of the latch faces out.
Thanks to aciim for the inspiration and giving me the confidence to try to create this!
