Description
A little smoke-gem "memory orb" you wear as an earring: a faceted, translucent
red glass orb wrapped by a gold band studded with porthole dots, and a gold
loop on top to hang it from. About 14 mm across, a statement charm that is
still light and wearable. Prints pole-down and support-free. Print two for a
matched pair.
WHAT YOU GET
A 3-color charm fused as ONE print on an AMS / multi-material machine, so
there is no glue and nothing to assemble but the ear hook.
- The three color regions are coordinate-locked solids whose union is exact:
the dots sit flush in the band, the band hugs the orb, no gaps, no overlap.
COLORING GUIDE (which filament goes where)
The charm has THREE color regions:
1. GLASS ORB. The faceted sphere. Use translucent / clear RED (translucent
PETG or a "glass" PLA reads best, so the red looks like trapped smoke).
A clear or amber orb also looks great.
2. BAND + BAIL. The equatorial ring AND the top hanging loop, one region.
Use GOLD or brass (silver also works). This is the metalwork.
3. PORTHOLE DOTS. The little plugs set into the band. Use BLACK (white or
silver also pops). These read as rivets.
HOW TO ASSIGN THE COLORS
AMS / multi-material (recommended):
Import remembrall_3color.stl, right-click, choose "Split to Parts". You
get three parts (inner / belt / dots) with coordinates preserved. Assign
filament 1 = red glass, 2 = gold, 3 = black. Slice and print.
No AMS / single color:
Print remembrall_all (single-color version) and paint the band gold and
the dots by hand, or just wear it as a one-color gem.
Manual multi-color from the separate STLs:
Print remembrall_inner / belt / dots individually and assign each its
color in your slicer object list (same split, just pre-separated files).
PRINTING
Orientation: bail up, flat pole on the bed. No supports.
- Layers: 0.12 mm for the crispest facets (0.2 mm is fine).
- Walls: 3 or more. Material: PLA or PETG (translucent PETG for the orb).
- The orb is symmetric, so print the SAME file twice for a matched pair.
ASSEMBLY
Thread a 0.8 mm jump ring through the gold bail, then add an ear hook.
Hang from the metal ring, not directly off the ear wire.
PARAMETRIC SOURCE
The attached remembrall_earring.scad exposes everything at the top: orb
diameter, band height, dot count and grouping, bail size, and three orb
variants. "faceted" is the cut-crystal gem (default look), "smooth" is a round
glass orb, and "truncated" gives an extra-flat bottom. Re-tune and re-export,
for example: openscad -D part=belt -o remembrall_belt.stl remembrall_earring.scad
The photo shows four printed in red and gold with black dots.
