Description

This is a holder for the BLTouch / 3DTouch sensor meant to be mounted behind the radial cooling fan. Initially I designed this for my Anet A8 in combination with the "Mistral 2.1a" fan duct from user Neo_N (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2121279), but I think, it works even without the fan duct and on other 3D printers.

The height of the sensor is very easy adjustable in a big range to suit all needs. You can use any of the holes in the slider to get the maximum of height you want. Even one screw is enough to tighten the slider / sensor there because of the small slides added in the sensor slider.

I added also the FreeCad construction file. You can easily adjust near all of the part parameters there using the sketches I have made. All parts are based on sketches.

Small UPDATE of the design: (26.06.2018)

  • Bigger holes on the baseplate and made the plate bigger.
  • A little more distance between the sensor on the slider holder and the baseplate.

How I Designed This

Most of the other designs for the Anet A8 mount the sensor on the hotend cooling fan screws or on the linear bearings screws. Both are not optimal for me. Looking for a better suitable solution, I saw the gap between the radial fan and the extruder holder coming from the fan duct I am using (it is mounted outside of / on the radial fan). There is a gab about 1.25mm. Fastening the fan with the duct installed would need some spacer between fan and extruder holder. With this design, this step is obsolete.

An other pro for placing there the sensor holder is (on the Anet A8) that it gets continuously fresh cooling air form the hotend cooling fan.
