Description
It's a remix of JustinSDK 'Text Box'
this is a real remix, compared to the other 188 'remixes'
The main difference is using the letters to cut out from the lid (instead of adding), so it can be printed without support.
You can change the text with any font (you have installed). From this endless possible objects I added 8 more stl's, using 'webdings' or similar picturesk fonts.
They are all in OpenScad as User presets (keep the path to text_box -letter.json next to text_box -letter.scad).
If you want to try yourself - I recomend it - download OpenSCAD and read the step by step explanation in "Print instructions". Actually it's made in thingiverse where I could add pictures in the text flow: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3980956
original text (cleaner format and with pictures): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3980956
why customize in OpenSCAD?
it's FREE and stays open --> it's yours
If you didn't try it yet:
download and install the latest release of OpenSCAD
initial view of the 'text_box -letter.scad'
view zoomed and rotated
how the Customizer certainly looks at first
Here you have already all my prepared Presets: look for the dropdown "design default values" and select something.. isn't that nice?
how to customize?
In the opened window look for ">Paramters" ( >Letter/Font and >Box and Lid settings) - click on that to open it's content
customizer, all parameters visible
here you can change now anything. See the change after youleft the paramter value (Automatic Preview is default active)
if there is something you want to recall later just call "save preset" name it and it's added to the Preset list
something about thefonts (parameter "font_name")
the "font_name" needs special entries you can find in OpenSCAD menu Help/Font List.
open the font list
the font list, using the filter/search
For chosing the fontvisibly (I'm on mac) there is a standard app named "Font Book" what gives an overview for all charachters on my system. (There should be something similar in other OS'.)
However, I found what I want, remember its basic name (e.g. 'Arial'), go to OpenScad Font List, enter it in 'Filter' (bottom), select the font, click "Copy to Clipboard" and paste it in the font_name butwithout " " !
copied font, pasted, without " "
