Something a little different

I've seen several really cool bowl/vase designs out there. I think that the ones that intrigue me the most are those that start with a chaotic design and make something orderly out of it or those that have a very technical design that can only be manufactured through an additive manufacturing process.

Inspired primarily by the latter with a dash of the former, I give you the "Maze Bowl."

Can you follow the line?

That meandering, twisting line you see when looking down on the top of this bowl is actually one single line that undulates around the circumference of this creation. When printed, it results in a delightful ribbon-like fold all around the bowl.

Simple, yet complex

The overall shape is rather simple. However, when printed in a translucent filament, the interplay of shadow and light results in an ever-changing form depending on which angle you view it from.

This is also a rather simple print. Slopes are gentle and, if printed without too much speed, the curves will result in a very smooth surface without echoes.

The print shown in the photos was printed at only 30 mm/s but is well worth the result.

What will you use it for?

While perhaps not that practical as an actual bowl, you may find all sorts of other uses for this bowl. Perhaps it will become a shade for an LED lamp. Perhaps it will make a good diffuser for a camera flash. Perhaps you might combine it with the Sinew Vase #3 (bowl) to make something of a budding flower.

Use your imagination and have fun!

Please post your make!

I love seeing what people make and how it turns out. If you have the time and actually make this, I would really appreciate you posting your make - it keeps me inspired.

If you really,really like it...

I do have a tip jar and I'll promise to put it towards more filament and not anything like basic necessities.

If you want to support me and get GREAT filament at the same time, please visit Proto-Pasta using my affiliate link and get yourself some excellent HTPLA!

God bless!

Printer Brand: Prusa

Printer: i3 MK3

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.2mm

Infill: 0%

Notes:

Be sure to print in vase-mode or "spiralize contour". Printing with a nozzle larger than 0.4mm may result in the loops fusing, particularly near the bottom but it may give a little extra rigidity; this bowl is a little flimsy, even in stiff PLA!
