Description

Mind you: you are probably better of buying a decent new PSU, but if you're as stubborn as I am, read on....

I wanted to replace the noisy fan in my CTC PSU but didn't find a quiet 60mm 24V fan in a decent price range and with the same dB (sound) levels as normal for the quiet 120mm PC fans. Since I already had the 120mm fan I decided to make this adapter to place the fan on the outside over the fan vent after removing the original PSU fan. You need to have your 3D printer on high feet as I have (see https://www.printables.com/model/185909-ctc-feet) in order to have enough space. I used a step down controller attached to 24V PSU to get 12V for the standard 120mm silent PC fan.

Even though the low profile of the adapter can reduce the fan's capacity the temperature I measured inside the PSU was very good, even a couple degrees lower than measured with the original 60mm fan.

Post-Printing

Since I used silent PC fans which are 12V DC, I used a LM2596S step down controller connected to 24V DC at the PSU set it to 12V and put it in an enclosure (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1306586). I cut some connector cable from an old PC PSU which has the same type of connector as on the fans.
