Description
This desk clamp is designed for my Quick-Adjust Half-Nut Vise. The vise slides onto the dovetail piece, which can be positioned to different angles with a ball & socket joint. The body of the clamp is a big screw that moves a shallow jaw for clamping onto narrow table edges (0-40mm thick). The ball & socket adjust +/-30 deg. in all directions. I've provided two versions of the dovetail mount - one straight, and one angled at about 30 deg. to provide a more convenient range of tilt angles.
Printing
All parts print in the orientations provided. If you have good adhesion, no brim or raft should be required. Note that the dovetail piece also includes a print-in-place clamping nut for the ball & socket joint.
Assembly
Insert the partial arc portion of the jaw into the lower nut and position it against the inside surface of the nut. Slide the nut onto the body and start threading the nut onto the body threat. Screw the upper nut (part of the dovetail piece) onto the top of the body. Attaching any sort of friction pad (rubber tape, foam tape, glue on a section of rubber band, etc.) to the jaws will dramatically increase the clamping friction.
Finally, slide your vise dovetail slot onto the dovetail piece. If the edges of the dovetail have any over-extrusion (lumpy corners) you'll need to sand or file these flat. You want a snug sliding fit.
Use
Adjust the lower nut to clamp to your table or desk edge. Loosen the top nut to tilt the vise and re-tighten to lock the angle. Remember, this is just a plastic vise, so don't over-tighten any of the nuts or screws.
