Description

This is a small parts tray with a sliding lid. There are three parts, the tray (or “bottom”) the top, and the lid. The Tray can be used all on its own, but you can also print the top part and add a sliding lid so you can close it up and prevent small parts from flying across the room when you knock if off the table.

There are two versions of the tray, the shallow version and the deep version. Choose one depending on how much you need it to hold, or how large the things you need to hold are.

The top part is meant to be screwed onto the bottom part with #4 screws. You can use 3/8" or ½" screws. The top part should be printed upside down with no support. There are small friction bumps to allow the sliding lid to work properly.

For the sliding lid you can use a piece of 3mm laser cut acrylic (assuming you have a laser cutter) or you can just print the lid. The laser cut version allows for clear or transparent acrylic so you can see what is in the tray.

A fellow named Pooch suggested printing this as one piece vertically, so I tried that and it worked. There's an STL for that as well. Print vertically, with no support. In fact, none of these prints need support. (Also, I forgot to remove the screw holes from the one piece design. Feel free to fix that!)

If the lid fits a bit loose you can add some tape along the edge that slides in so there's a bit more friction. Or, just make a new lid, or print a new top to make things fit.

There are two OpenSCAD files included. One for the shallow version, and one for the deep version. They work, but are not as great as they should be. I hope to one day be better at OpenSCAD.
