Description

This is a keyway cover for European-style Cylinder Locks.

The majority of these locks do not require a cover at all. However, in my home some of them allow a noticeable draft. In a world of high heating costs, I created these simple covers to block those drafts.

I find these covers work best on the outside of the lock (block the draft before it gets through the door. It also mean you can still easily operate the lock from the inside without having to remove a cover! :)

Note: This model is being submitted to the Last Metres competition, which asked for a gcode file to verify the amount of material used. Feel free to use the gcode if you like, but it is simply the default 0.2 mm Quality Profile for the Prusa Mini in PrusaSlicer.

This print uses 1.21m of filament, as reported by PrusaSlicer.

Printing Instructions

This is a super simple print. Choose any settings you see fit. Print time is approximately 20 minutes (based on stock 0.2 mm Quality profile for the Prusa Mini).

Fitting Instructions

In my case, these covers have a nice friction fit, so all I had to do was pop them on!

It should be noted the Euro Cylinder Lock has a standard size, but there is wiggle room in the standard, and there is also manufacturing tolerances that can be good… and not so good, depending on the brand. All that is to say, the keyway cover might not fit your lock without some adjustment (such as scaling the part up or down ever so slightly in your slicer).

Also, please check the lock actually protrudes far enough out from the handle before printing. Anything less than about 5 millimetres and the cover probably won't stay on (unless it is a tight fit).
