Description
This is my interpretation of the COVID-2019 Coronavirus. Being stuck at home because of this stupid thing, I decided to make a macro plastic version of it.I took inspitation from images online of the corona virus and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4166787 but this is not a remix, it is a from scratch design. I dislike supports and I also wanted to make a multicolor version without a multi material printer, so I set to work and designed this thing.
This is very easy to print even on a very small printer. The body is 50mm in diameter and the spikes are a little over 20mm. You will need to print 2 body halves, 1 pin and 45 spikes. I used a brim on the spikes and set the printer to ZHop as not to knock the spikes over while printing. I used some adhesive for car trim to hold it together, but 3d gloop,or super glue, or even hot glue would work fine to assemble it. I printed this in translucent blue PLA and red PLA.
It is a little cartoony in it's dimensions, but it is a good reference piece. I think it would be a good project for all those kids who are out of school during the pandemic shutdown.
I promise that printing this will not infect you with the Virus! Wash your hands and be careful out there!
Printer Brand:
Anet
Printer:
A8
Rafts:
No
Supports:
No
Resolution:
.15 base with variable layer heights
Infill:
10%
Filament: Cheap and Zyltech PLA Translucent Blue and Red
Notes:
I printed this with brims for the Spikes (accidentally left it on for the body and pin). I turned ZHop on to avoid knocking over the pins. You need to print 2 copies of the body, 1 pin and 43 Spikes. I used variable layer heights to speed up printing and have better quality for the top layers.
Assembly
Align the 2 body halves using the hex pin and glue the halves together. Glue the spikes into the printed holes. Easy as that.
I used automotive trim glue to hold it together, but hot glue, superglue, 3d gloop or epoxy would work as well.License:
