Description
I've always wanted to find a functional way of using infill patterns. I remixed a hexagonal design to be printable with whatever infill pattern you want (see below for some printing tips).
This is based on @Matthew_Ghost's soap dish. The tray is changed to a solid piece with the existing ridge as used in the original - being solid allows you to tweak infill settings to make that the design. The tray is also resized slightly to better fit the base. The base is nearly identical, just with the word ‘soap’ removed for easier cleaning.
To print infill designs, remove top and bottom layers (top layers = 0 and bottom layers = 0). You will likely need to add extra infill lines as well.
Scale if needed - the tray is 82mm from corner to corner, so check your soap size before printing and scale if needed.
All settings below are based on Cura - your slicer may behave differently or have different terminology (or have better looking infill options!). Make sure to play around with rotation, size, percentages, etc. to get the perfect look for you.
I rotated the model in Cura just slightly to make it line up with the infill pattern like this:
Be patient with your infill settings - it's designed to print quick, not pretty. You may need to do a little clean up, or slow down your infill speed.
