Ender 3 (Pro) 90° Heated Bed Cable Strain Relief

I build the Lack enclosure for my Ender 3 Pro but the cable of the heated bed constantly was bended in weird was at the back panel because a couple of centimeters were missing.

My solution is a cable strain relief replacing the original which guides the cable at a 90° angle allowing the heated bed to move all the way back in the enclosure without bending the cable.

Attention!

Guiding the cable at a 90° angle might cause it to be wrapped around the Y axis motor! Be careful to test how the cable moves before starting a print!

Solution 1

Make sure to guide the cable in a way that it naturally goes over the motor. Be creative! This is my preferred solution!

Solution 2

I solved the issue by mounting the cable for the heated bed behind the Z motor pulling it away from the Y motor. See here: https://youtu.be/2F9PKYtBUSE

Solution 3

Swap the Y end stop and the Y axis motor so there is more space on the side of the heated bed cables

Print

You do not need supports for any part (flip cover so that the top is on the build plate). Print the strain relief and cover with max 0.2mm layer height to ensure the clip mechanism is working.

Installation

• Remove the two big wheels on the rear used for leveling the bed
• Pull the bed up and remove the original cable strain relief
• Put the new one in its place
• Use the two holes to fix the cables in place with a cable tie. Make sure it's fixing the cable in place! This cable tie will absorb any stresses on the cable.
• Put the cover over the cables, it should snap into place easily.
• Put the wheels back on and level your bed
• TEST HOW THE CABLE MOVES and mount it so there is no stress on the cable at any point while moving the bed in Y direction from end to end and the cable does not get stuck on something

Update v18

• Increased wall thickness of the cover to 2mm
• Moved the solid part of the arm from bottom to top. The yellow aftermarket springs punched through it and the new arrangement allows for easier leveling.

• Fixed the cut out for the zip tie was on the top instead of the bottom.
