Description

Here is my version of the classic TNG combadge designed to print in separate colors.

The parts are:

  • Gold 1 & 2 - These are intended to be printed standing up for best resolution. Gold 1 part has an included support option that helps keep it standing (in prusaslicer, move it into place and hit the ‘split to objects’ button so the included supports aren't fused with the badge as one print, and ignore the warning about collision. Use supports to help with the rest of the part. Print slower to help keep it upright.
  • Black - Use supports.
  • Silver - For best results print slow with 1 perimeter wall at .15mm layer height. Set bottom infill to ‘monotonic lines’ for a clean look.

Tip: For the silver part, the filament was a little transparent so the glue used would show through as a dark blob. To remedy this, I printed the silver part in two colors, swapping it to black for the top (4th layer) and final layers. This made it so the glue would not show through the black.

Fitted for 6x2mm magnets. Let me know if you need it for other magnet sizes.

Also includes a whole version with all the parts combined--intended for painting.

Display stand included. Use color swap for the tag. Here is a guide that explains how color swapping works, at least with Prusaslicer: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/color-change_1687

Filaments used in the cover photo were CC3D Antique Gold PLA Max, which is a very nice gold color for Star Trek badges since it has a more muted shine but has a darker gold tone with a very slight metallic effect. The ones used in the other photos were CC3D silk gold, and Ziro diamond silver.
