I recently got my Qidi X-Plus and decided to use the internal spool holder to print some ABS. Unfortunately, the new cardboard spool filament holders offered by many filament makers fall off of the back of the spool holder and get caught between the spool holder and the back of the machine. This puts a TON of friction on the spool and makes it difficult for the extruder to pull the filament.

So, I did what anybody does, and searched for solutions on all of the stl websites.

They're all awful. Don't bother. None of them are better than the stock holder. I tried THREE DIFFERENT ONES wasting a week of printing just to realize the stock holder was the best. The rest of them all have one type of problem or another, and qidi already GIVES you a spool holder, why would you replace it?

Anyway, after wasting a week printing other people's solutions, I made my own extremely simple solution.

I made this little spacer to prevent the spools from falling off the back.

Just take off the 4 little allen screws and screw this thing down on the top of the mount itself.

It works great! (With all of the spools I have.)

I printed it in ABS so it wouldn't warp when printing with hotter filaments. (The inside of the qidi gets quite warm when printing with nylon or PC or even ABS.)

It doesn't need supports when oriented correctly. There are no major overhangs just some bevels. Make sure you put the flat side on the bed! When I import it into cura it's upside down.

Other than that there are no real printing requirements. Do as many walls or top/bottom layers you want. I used tri-hexagon fill at 30% because... I wanted it to be strong. It's probably way overkill. I can literally stand on this thing upright and it holds my weight. Considering this thing supports virtually nothing... you can likely print it with no fill or in weaker materials.

There is still a few mm of play that the spool can move back and forth on the spool holder (when it is screwed ALL of the way in) so this can definitely support SLIGHTLY wider spools.
