Adventures in Vase Mode

Description

There are three sizes to choose from (the included gcode is for the medium pot), these come with a 4mm hex grid in the base, the grid can be easily removed; it's a negative volume in the PrusaSlicer Project file.

These also make a great desk organiser; this will be released as a separate model shortly.

Why

Sometimes it's good to explore something new.

I started by designing an interesting profile with vase mode print in mind, then extruded it many different ways in CAD until I ended up with something I liked the look of; these are the result of this adventure.

Printing

The included models are designed to be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle, in Vase mode. Scaling up is fine, but scaling down will probably not work very well. Height of the hex grid in the base is 2mm so bottom layers should add up to this, or the negative volume will need to be scaled up/down appropriately.

The hex grid in the base of the pot can be easily removed, by deleting the negative volume.

(The negative volume can also be expanded into individual bodies if you feel like playing around with the grid design, for example you could delete some to add your own pattern/text/image to the grid…)

Miscellaneous Thoughts

There are so many ways to print this model, can't wait to see what you lot come up with. They tessellate pretty well too, you just have to match opposing sides.

All versions have been test printed and work great, I've added a picture of the large pot on the printer with the small and medium versions alongside.

The model files are pretty big… they're just full of complexity is all.

Enjoy,
