Description

This lens is in no way intended to blow your mind, it produces sub par photos, the focus can't be adjusted and the sharpness is lacking. This project is more of a test to play with the limitations. What I really want to do with the project (in order) is the following:

  • Implement a rotating end-piece so you can adjust the focal length on the go. For minor adjustments
  • Implement a printed aperture in the body (I have yet to design a version that prints well on my ender 3 because of the size limitations)
  • Attach two lenses side-by-side in the same body, have a wall in between them that follows all the way down to the sensor so I can take stereo images. This would require that the user disables the physical shutter of the camera to get the ‘wall’ close enough to the sensor. Which means that if you use the proposed lens without disabling the shutter you will damage your camera and I have not dared to plunge into this yet

Some notes:

  • Protip when slicing: Adjust the z-seam so it aligns with the “dot”. This means the seam will be functional as a visual indicator of how to attach this to your camera
  • With minor adjustments disposable camera lenses can be used
  • If you want to remix it you will have to make sure the focal length of the donor camera matches the focal length of the lens when placed in this shell

Print and assemble:

  • You need “Main” and “Insert”
  • Drop the donor lens into “main”, then put the insert in. You can screw the insert in/out with a coin placed in the two slots.

Included is also the base I made to build this and similar projects upon.

Cat tax included in the pictures :)
