Description

Measurements and shape taken from the screen-used prop. Completed cane with an amber topper is approximately 840mm/33" long--the appropriate height for someone the same height as Richard Attenborough--so scale the Z dimension of the spine pieces (don't mess with the top cup, foot, or amber topper) accordingly to fit your height.

Each spine piece is numbered on the model, with piece 1 being the largest top piece and piece 12 being the smallest bottom piece, for easy reference after printing.

Print the spine pieces in PLA for easy finishing, with the threaded foot in PETG or ABS for more impact resistance and better hold. Assemble around a 7/16" or M10 threaded rod, using the space inside the top cup of the cane for a captive nut. Finish it off with a rubber cane foot after painting and weathering.

Print the topper in resin that looks like amber if you don't care about the mosquito / crane fly, or use it to make a mold and cast your own with a crane fly suspended inside.

Note: This prop was originally designed around a 7/16" threaded rod. Normally I'm a huge proponent of metric, but metric threaded rod is expensive (I spared some expense) and hard to find in the U.S. While there are metric versions of the foot and top cup you may want to wrap the middle of the M10 rod in some tape to keep the spine pieces from being too loose. The cane will also be slightly less sturdy with an M10 rod instead of 7/16", but this is just a prop for fun and not something you should be using as a medical device anyway.
