I love these contests, but I fear they will spam the Printables Search Engine with so many search terms that only describe coaster motifs to make it virtually useless.

(Replace “coaster” with the flash contest topic of the week … each contest floods the system with another couple of hundred search terms for a single class of items.)

So - here's a Search Engine Spam coaster to raise awareness of an upcoming problem that requires some sharp thinking to avoid!

Example Search Engine Shortcomings

1. It is not possible to search within a specific category. Search is always global.
2. It is not possible to search for a specific category. There is a mechanism to search for tags, but of course users placing their prints in categories won't intuitively see a reason to create a tag with the category name. The same mechanism used to search for tags could be used to search for categories, but it doesn't exist, despite categories being a much more useful and robust aspect of print meta information.
