Description
This is a drill stop that uses ER-11 collets. No fiddling with set screws, this one can be finger tightened.
An ER-11 metric collet set (from 1.0 to 7.0 mm) will fit Imperial drills from a number 59 at the smallest to a 9/32" at the largest. So it's usable for the smallest ~half of a standard fractional inch bit set.
I saw QuadeHale's Collet Drill Stop and thought it was a good idea. However, since I had some ER-11 collets already, why not try and use those? I attempted rescaling their design to fit. That did not quite work out. So, I designed this to fit the collets.
It's probably only good for light duty use. I can't see the plastic holding up for long when the chips are peeling off blue and smoking.
Highest resolution you can manage is probably best. The thread isn't all that large. Print one of the base nut and one of the top nut. I suggest using the medium thread clearance version. That worked best for me. If the medium doesn't work out, try the looser or tighter version. If the loose is still too tight or the tight is still too loose, start scaling I guess.
