Description

I wanted a secure way to mount the sensor with stock hardware, sine the other mounts for the Super Racer were just integrated or dependent upon custom effectors and hot ends. I also didn't want to make any permanent changes to the effector.

For this mount you will need:

  • 2 M3x8mm screws to connect the ADXL and the outer piece of the mount
  • 1 M3x8mm screw to secure the mount in place
  • 1 M3 hex nut, for securing the mount in place

Print both halves - no supports should be necessary. The mounting holes are threaded for M3x8mm, however they are definitely on the snug side. If you use longer than an 8mm M3 for mounting the ADXL you will need washers or spacers to hold it snug, however there isnt a lot of extra space keeping it away from the effector arms so I wouldn't go much longer.

I used another M3x8mm screw to secure both halves together, however it is a through hole that secures with a hex nut so you could use a screw maybe up to 5mm longer without issue - much longer and it'll touch the heater block of the hot end.

I originally designed this as a single piece that would slide over the 2 ABL sensor mount supports, but I had trouble removing the effector housing to loosen the screws and install it, so I switched to a sandwiching 2-piece design. I initially tried printing this in PLA but the threads were too tight, plus it's in close proximity to heat so I switched to PETG which deforms more easily to accommodate the screws, but I could tweak this to loosen up the threading if there's a request to do so.

This design has worked perfectly for me, and I just leave my ADXL installed since the mount holds it securely enough.

I recommend printing with <0.2mm layer height, 3 or 4 perimeters and 1mm top/bottom. Use 25% or greater cubic infill.
