Description

The Ground Pod Classic makes it easy to capture images while lying prone. A ball head can be used to provide stability. This camera pod was developed for my brother to be able to take nature photos supporting a large lens close to the ground, while laying prone.

It is made using “off the shelf” components, combined with a custom 3D printed structure to keep the camera steady. Flying discs are far more durable than any 3D printed part. Combining this with a 3D printed mount for a ball head, creates a durable structure.

Photography by Ash Ponders.

Hardware:

1/4” long 3/8”-16 UNC bolt (This is a photography standard)

A flying discs with an inner diameter of about 164mm, alternatively, this could be printed

Super glue (optional)

Files to print:

If using a pre-existing flying disc:

  • 1x Ground Pod Classic Hub
  • 6x Ground Pod Classic Centering Arm

If using the all in one:

  • 1x Ground Pod Classic All-In-One

Printing:

Layer height: 0.28mm, anything lower than 0.2 is not suggested.

No supports

Prior to Assembly:

  1. Clean out inbuilt supports in the center hole

(If using a pre-existing flying disc):

    2. Drill a 15mm hole in the center of the bottom of the flying disc

Assembly: (If using All-In-One skip to step 5.)

  1. Slide a leg into the slot on the side of a hub.
  2. Repeat 5 more times. This is easiest if done on alternative sides.
  3. Grab prepared flying disc
  4. Gently tap hub assembly into place.
  5. Insert the 3/8”-16 UNC bolt into the hole in the bottom of the flying disc as far as it goes.
  6. Screw ball head onto the exposed treads of the bolt.

Enjoy your Ground Pod!
