Description
Since I'm moving to San Francisco, I can no longer suspend all of my filament spools above my 3D printer - so I made this very simple accessory to help. This is a no-nonsense single-print filament spool holder that sits atop your printer and allows for quick changing of filament.
Since earthquakes are going to be a way of life for me moving forward, I also added screw holes to allow you to affix this to the top of the printer (both countersink and counterbore versions available for download). Think of it as a stability kit.
For the rotating spindle axis, you can use whatever dowel is available: PVC, wood or even the original hangers that were screwed in the back of the printer.
Have two extruders? Print two of these and place them both atop the printer cover, facing one another, with both filament holes as close to the center as possible.
Supports 100mm radius spools with up to 80 mm width (which is all of them, right?)
There are many parametric versions of the spindle adapter available, but here's one I find pretty useful because of its cool spiral shape:

Anyways - I design stuff like this all the time, so feel free to peruse my other publications - who knows what you'll find you can't live without:

March 3rd, 2016 update: Added a bigger version for those wide and large spools I didn't know about. :D
