Bottle Wig Stand

Description

I need a wig stand, and I don't like any of the ones I've found on thingiverse or other sites. I also happen to have a collection of empty soda bottles. So here we are: my "poor man's wig stand". Two variants even, with optional parts!

The not that poor version

  • center.stl: The octagonal centerpiece which screws onto the bottle and is used to hang arms off of, or to attach the extension.
  • center_extended_10cm.stl and center_extended_rounded_10cm.stl: Optional. These pieces just extend the centerpiece by a bit over 10cm. The rounded one takes slightly less time to print, and uses about 2 grams less material.
  • ring.stl: Optional but recommended. Attaches to the ends of the arms to increase stability.
  • arm.stl: The arm which is to be attached to the octagonal centerpiece. Print four of them for the whole set.

The really poor version

  • standalone_base.stl: This is a base to which a soda bottle can be attached: no other parts are needed. Attach it to the bottle, flip it upside down, plonk it on the table and place the wig on top of the bottle. It isn't great.

Notes

  • I printed all of this with Prusa PETG and so the parts are quite flexible and will not snap easily. I really do not recommend using PLA for this - at least not the arms. You might want to consider redesigning the arms with additional support if you do.
  • All parts already have a fair amount of slack and are designed to be fairly simple to assemble/disassemble. If the parts are very snug or don't fit, you may want to look into adjusting the extrusion on your printer (improve your printer settings). If they're too loose, I may need to improve my printer settings. Let me know!
  • None of the models require any support. Although the ring part does have overhangs, they're very small and should print with no sag if your printer is fast enough.
  • The STL files should be in the correct dimensions (mm) and orientations, ready to be sliced and printed.
  • Blender and STL files are included.

All models were printed on a Prusa i3 MK3S using Prusa PETG

(mostly using stock Prusa Slicer presets for said material)

Notes:

Model-specific print settings:

center.stl, standalone_base.stl:

  • I printed this with Prusa PETG; other materials should be fine
  • 0.20mm layer height ("0.20mm SPEED" or QUALITY) due to the spiral. Higher precision will make the spiral stronger.
  • 2 perimeters
  • Ensure vertical shell thickness
  • 20% infill (although 10 would probably be fine)
  • No supports
  • No skirt/brim
  • Est. printing time: 1 hour, 10 minutes for center.stl, 2 hours for standalone_base.stl .

center_extended_10cm.stl, center_extended_rounded_10cm.stl:

  • I printed this with Prusa PETG; other materials should be fine
  • 0.30mm layer height ("0.30mm DRAFT")
  • 2 perimeters
  • Ensure vertical shell thickness
  • 10% infill
  • No supports
  • No skirt/brim
  • Est. printing time: 2 hours, 20 minutes for the octagonal version, ~10 minutes less for the rounded version

ring.stl:

  • I printed this with Prusa PETG; other materials should be fine
  • 0.30mm layer height ("0.30mm DRAFT")
  • 2 perimeters
  • Ensure vertical shell thickness
  • 15% infill (although it's not important)
  • No supports (this has overhangs, but it's fine - YOLO)
  • No skirt/brim
  • Est. printing time: 40 minutes

leg.stl:

  • I printed this with Prusa PETG. I do not recommend printing these with PLA. If you do, you might want to modify the part for additional support on the top-side.
  • 0.20mm layer height ("0.20mm QUALITY")
  • 2 perimeters
  • Ensure vertical shell thickness
  • 20% infill (although it's not important)
  • No supports
  • No skirt/brim
  • Print 4x of these
  • Est. printing time: 1 hour, 15 minutes for four copies
