Description
Since I bought the Filastruder mainly to reclaim scrap ABS, and since heating ABS produces toxic fumes, I designed this enclosure to trap those fumes so that they may be vented out of the window.
This system relies on 4" galvanized ventilation pipes and elbows to cut down on the amount of printing required. It is designed for use with my vertical auger assisted hopper and improved wall mounted sensor for the filawinder.
The viewport window is designed to be cut from a 1.5mm thick CD/DVD jewel case. There is a template provided to help cut that part to size.
There are 2 different options for filament cooling fan placement. I found that mounting the fan on the exhaust side resulted in the best airflow for ventilation, but I include options for mounting the fan on either side.
Hardware needed:
The sections of this unit that contact the steel pipe of the filastruder should ideally be printed in ABS or better due to the temperatures reached, but PETG should also be OK.
Note that some of these parts are designed with sacrificial membranes to enable them to be printed without supports. Those membranes are intended to be cut away after printing.
