3D Printable Brain - From MRI

For my latest build project I took an old MRI scan of my brain and turned it into a life-sized 3D model with LEDs inside to act as a lamp (they can even sync up to music)!

The brain model serves as a reminder of the scary time in my life when I had to get the MRI (all is ok now though!) as well as just being a cool display piece to keep around the house and dare I say, a conversation starter. The model attached to this posting is not actually my brain for privacy reasons, but instead is a model I segmented from a publicly available MRI example dataset and then edited to be printable. The MRI file is built into 3DSlicer, a fantastic open-source DICOM viewer.

I really hope this enables others with MRI scans to print a ‘piece of themselves’ as it really is kinda cool to have it sitting on your desk and realize the same thing is inside your head haha.
