Description
Onkyo AV receivers tend to fail after some years of usage. Most of the time the HDMI board is faulty. Usually, some of the capacitors went bad or there are bad solder joints at the DSP chip. The capacitors can be replaced and a bad connection is often fixed by heating the chip with a heat gun.
To prevent such problems it can help to put heat sinks onto the chip and to install a fan above the HDMI board. With this bracket, you can install any 70x15 fan between the top of the case and the PCB. It will sit flush against the cover of the case and even provide a little space for some small heat sinks.
The HDMI PCB provides a 5 V and a 12 V power source. You can either try to put additional wires into the existing connector or just solder two wires at the bottom side of the PCB. I would recommend installing some kind of connector between the power source and the fan, in case you want to replace or remove the fan in the future.
Slide the fan horizontally from the half-open side of the bracket all the way to the back of the bracket. Then push it down into the bracket. The little nibs should prevent it from being pushed out through the bottom. Screw the bracket to the case using two of the screws at the HDMI connectors.
