Description
This is an improved version with ice filling at the top instead of at the bottom, to prevent leakage when the ice melts.
In addition to use crushed ice (Method 1), there is a method of pouring in water directly to freeze it (Method 2), but then you have to use a medium in which the water can expand in to when it freezes, otherwise the seidel will crack.Â
| Box volume | Box size | Prefix name for STL files |
|---|---|---|
| 330ml | 66 x 115 mm | 330 Normal |
| 330ml | 59 x 140 mm | 330 Slim |
| 0.5 liter | 66 x 168 mm | 500 Normal |
No support is needed for any of the parts.
A refrigerator cold beer (4 degrees C or 40 degrees F) will eventually drop to 0 C or 32 F as long as there is ice left in the cavety in the seidel.
Â
You should seal the Seidel with varnish or epoxy so that it does not leak during the freezing process to ensure it is waterproof.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Crush the ice and pour it into the cavity.
The advantage is that it is safer and prevents crack damage in the seidel.Â
The disadvantage is that you have to constantly pour in new crushed ice each time it is to be used.
Â
Print the Ice Cower and IceFunnel and place it as shown for easier pouring in the crushed ice.
Â
Screw on the cower and put it in the freeser until you are ready to use it.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Pour in water insted of ice and freeze with a material that absorbs the increase in volume when water freezes into ice.
The advantage is that you don't have to pour in new water each time, but only need to place the seidel in the freezer again and freeze the same water.
The disadvantage is that it is somewhat more complicated and risky to set up.Â
It can crack if you are not careful enough.
Â
Â
Since water increases by 10% in volume when it freezes, we need something to absorb this increase in volume without cracking.
I use here a plastic foam of 2 mm thickness, which was originally intended as a base for floor coverings. When the water freezes, it has room to expand into the foam mat instead of rupturing the container.Â
Make sure the water level is 1-2cm lower than the threads, with the foam mat in the water to have a air layer on top.
Â
Â
Â
Â
First make sure that the foam reaches from top to bottom in the cavety.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Then place the foam as shown in the top cower and screw it in place.Â
If excess water comes out in the middle where the box should be, do not pour it out, but hold the Seidel upright and remove it with a paper towel.Â
if the Seidelen is not vertical, more water will just flow out from the joint in the middle.
Put it in the freezer right side up, otherwise it will leak water.
After use, it can now be put in the freezer again with the same water, so you don't have to prepare it with new water.
