Description

Use: This knob works excellent for jig/fixtures allowing an easy-to-use knob to secure items. The through hole allows for any length bolt or threaded rod.

Design: This model is designed for standard 1/4"-20 zinc plated hex nuts with a measured width across the flats =0.432" and a height=0.215". Some minor deviation from these dimensions should work.

Knob is 1 ½" in diameter and ¾" in height

Print Instructions: G-Code included for knob print, with pause for nut insertion

The main challenge with printing an embedded nut is that the 1st layer over the nut does not stick well to the steel. To aid in getting the material to bond to the steel nut I recommend coating the top surface of the nut with 2-3 layers of glue stick. Once the print is resumed this provides an improved bonding surface.

Prior to resuming the print ensure the nut is flush or slightly below the printed surface. Please check this carefully to ensure the nozzle does not crash into the nut if it is not seated properly.

I have successfully printed many of these with PETG material. Please follow these tips and you should have a successful print.

Detailed print settings if not using G-code file:

Supports must be off

My 1st layer is set to 0.3mm, remaining layers are 0.2mm

Nut sits on layer 34 (z=6.9mm)

Print is paused after layer 63 is complete (Z=12.7, 62 layers at .2, 1 layer at .3) to insert nut into print

Layer 64 (pause print command required to pause print prior to starting on layer 64) is the 1st layer that covers the nut

Layer height 12.7mm-6.9mm=5.8mm (0.228") This allows for height of nut plus a bit of clearance so nozzle clears the nut upon resuming print.
