Big SAMLA Filament Storage/Dry Box

BOM

Here's what I used to build my box:

  • 1 x Ikea SAMLA 78x56x43 cm/130l (901.029.71) (and the fitting lid)
  • 4 x Steel Pipe with 16mm outer diameter, 1mm wall thickness and a length of 62,5cm
  • 4 x Pipe Holder (see STL files)
  • 8 x Pipe Cap (see STL files)
  • 4 kg of Silica Gel (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07H2KPRFQ)

Print Settings

I used “Das Filament PETG black” (https://www.dasfilament.de/filament-spulen/petg-1-75-mm/158/petg-filament-1-75-mm-schwarz) to print my parts. Everything is printed at 0.2mm layer height and 20% gyroid infill.

But there shouldn't be any problems to use other settings and materials like PLA.

Assembly Guide

Assembly should be very straightforward.

  1. Stick the pipes through the holes in the holder (1 cm of pipe is sticking out on each side of my holder)
  2. Place the endcaps on the pipes
  3. Fill Silica Gel in your SAMLA box
  4. Place the 2 assembled holders on the Silica Gel in the box
  5. Wait for the magic to happen :-)
