Minimalist Non Destructive Ultimaker 3 Door

A very minimal door inspired by the S-line design. It is made to be non-destructive and uses double adhesive tape on the inside to secure the hinge. This is less ideal than using screws. But I didn't want to cut holes in the Dibond casing of the Ultimaker. As the Ultimaker uses Dibond (aluminium sandwich with plastic in between) most double-sided tapes won't damage it but do secure it well. I used brass threaded inserts as this will allow me to screw off the m3 bolts easily without damaging the printed parts. But this is not needed. The 4mm perspex plates are CNC machined on a Stepcraft CNC. The Fusion File is also included. However, if you are able to I would adjust the bottom curve from 25mm to something a little larger such as 30 or 35. I messed up a measurement there and now when you open it, it can get very close/bump into the cornered edge of the printer.

The final print was done in UM Silver PETG because I like the look of it. If you want something very fancy with low tolerances I would CNC machine it in Aluminium. Otherwise, the first test print in white PLA also worked fine. Note that this is a hinge with the hinge in the centre and a design with two hinges would make it way sturdier.

Design is made in solidworks and sldprt file is also included.

A metal rod is needed for the rotational part that goes through the three printed parts. The holes should be 1.8mm and I used a 1.9mm rod that I had laying around to make sure it is tight without too much wobble. I do advise you to have the hole custom fit to whatever rod you end up using. 2mm should also be fine. Rather sand that a couple of times than have something that is too small and therefore wobbly.

Added the ultimate_blenderversion, which is the rotational part but with the attachment parrt to the CNC machined acryl a bit deeper so that the door fits better. Also the handle has a V2 where there is space for a small metal plate that I cut to fit so that on the other side a new file called magnetholder holds a small magnet I had laying around so that it stays closed with the magnet and metal strip.
