Description

I like to deal with chef's knives and have not yet found a satisfactory solution for storing my knives.

In my opinion, the solution should have the following characteristics:

  • Airy for carbon steel knives.
  • Easy and quick to reach.
  • Easy to install and change.
  • Non-magnetizing.
  • Versatile.

I think most of these points can meet this version of my knife holder well. The childproofing can then be achieved via the height :) But by the fact that you can take the knives straight out of the holder this should be well feasible.

For households without children, the mounting is also suitable in drawers, doors or many other places.

Sizes

Size S : 5 mm width, 22 mm length Insert 2.2 mm width
Size M : 5 mm width, 35 mm length, insert 2.3 mm width
Size L : 5 mm width, 50 mm length, insert 2,4 mm width

Spring tension shutter

In stationary use on the wall, the lock is actually not essential and can therefore be loosely adjusted.
In moving places such as doors or e.g. in the camper, a rather strong tension should be set to avoid accidental loosening. Of course, the installation in such places is always at your own risk!

Mounting

Simply place the printed part on a ledge and fix it with a 3 mm screw. Leave space so that the blades do not touch each other when unfolding.

Insert

For particularly thin knives, you can print out the corresponding insert and simply insert it into the holder.

Tips for printing

The critical point in this printing is mainly the overhangs between the two parts of the hinge. To reduce the risk of joining the two parts I have constructed a design aid. This should allow the hinge to open without too much force. More details in my video :) Also, a small area is cut out to leave room for your finger when prying it open.

I hope you have a lot of fun with my development and it can help one or the other. About constructive feedback I am always very happy!

Have fun printing!
