Description

This is a modification* for the Printed Solid Enclosure Spool Holder to make it a dual spool holder. (based on the Prusa enclosure)

  • Modification used existing hardware and does require cutting of the existing support brackets from the spool holder.

Print instructions

This is a modification of the existing spool holder that comes with the PrintedSolid Enclosure for the Prusa MK3s.
You will need a piece of PVC pipe for holding the reels (see below)

Yes, there are probably other alternatives out there, but this was a fun project to do in Fusion 360 and makes use of existing parts.

I personally like have two spools on the printer; one for printing, the other ready for my next print or if I'm switching colors.

The modification makes use of the existing hardware and MDF supports for the spool holder.

You will need to cut the tabs on the MDF supports so that the screws are long enough to reattach them to the top of the enclosure.

You will need to print the following:
(2) support clips
(1) base support
(1) (set of two) ring nuts
(1) threaded tube
(1) spacer

I used PETG for my base as I wanted something strong for supporting the MDF panels.
I used PLA for the parts, the choice is yours.

This was designed for printing, so no supports are required.
Use brims and extra perimeters as defined in the 3MF files.

PVC: I used a piece of PVC that was 10" long and O.D. 7/8".

Mounting:
Use the base part as a template to align where you want to drill the holes (see photo). I recommend that you tape (inside and out) where you will drill so that you don't ruin the veneer.

Use the existing screws and nuts to mount the MDF to the top; going through the base as shown in the photos.
