Description

Design

The Knife Arc Stand II consists of a 45° arc segment and offers optimal possibility to store the kitchen knives on smallest space. The open design also provides a very easy way to see the blade of the knife you are looking for.

The open design with bevels allows easy cleaning of the Knife Arc Stand II. Having small wholes to hold the blades reduces the places to get dirty. The edges are well reachable for cleaning.

The base is hollow and allows filling with sand or something else through a retractable screw. This gives the Knife Arc Stand II a better stability. However, for ease of printing, the cavity was designed so that no supports will be required.

Parameters

The Knife Arc Stand II is designed in Fusion 360 and uses editable parameters for flexible modifications.

ParameterDefaultDescription
BowRadius170.00 mm

Outer radius of Knife Arc Stand II (at least: width & height of stand).

Should be 10 mm below the printing plate size (e.g. 170 mm on Prusa MINI).

BowThickness6.00 mm

Thickness of the arc and the walls of the body.

I have not tested, but I think less than 4 mm will be too fragile.

Bevel1.0 mm

General bevel of the stand.

Bevel of blade wholes could be adjust on its own, see below.

BladeWholeWidth3.00 mm

Width of the blade wholes.

Have a look how thick your knife blades are on top side.

BladeWholeHeight58.00 mm

Height of the blade wholes.

Check the biggest knife you would like to add.

BladeWholeMargin5.00 mm

Margin of the blade wholes.

The margin of the knife wholes to the arc.

BladeWholeArc6 deg

Angel between the blade wholes.

Currently this is not changeable without bigger modifications. I have currently no way found to add/suppress knife wholes depending on this angle.

BladeWholeBevel1.00 mmBevel at the blade wholes.

Please be careful when making changes. The values are not checked for plausibility and can lead to strange side effects if the case arises.

Calculated Parameters

Some parameters are calculated by formulas but could also be overwritten:

ParameterFormulaDescription
StartEndArc(90 deg - 12 * BladeWholeArc ) / 2The first and last arc connected to body.
d116, d117BladeWholeHeight / 4.5The bevel within the body to prevent supports.
Probably you have to play to get optimal bevels if you change the BladeWholeWidth. You could inspect it, if you enable the construction layer.

Printing

  • Supports: no
  • Rafts: no
  • Resolution: 0.20mm
  • Infill: 15%
  • Material: PLA or PETG

Place the body of  Knife Arc Stand II on one side onto the printing plate to prevent supports.

Assembly

  1. Fill some dry sand (e.g. sand for bird cages or similar) through the whole until the body of the Knife Arc Stand II is full. The filling is for weight and better standing.
  2. Close with the printed screw. You could use a coin to screw in.
  3. Place the stand as you prefer: with screw on the desk or in the back. The stand is symmetric.
  4. Add your knifes.

Let me know your opinion and improvements. Looking forward your makes and pictures! Give me a 🧡 if you like my work.

This is an improved version of Knife Bow Stand: better parametric formulas, improved stand using sand as stability weight.
