Description

The Qidi X-Max has enough free space in the electronics "compartment" to mount a RaspberryPi. But it has to be mounted upside down - something which can be done rather easily with self-adhesive Velcro tape. This has the benefit of being able to easily reach the TTL pins (and also the touchscreen). But since the electronics are not really isolated from the printing chamber, it can get really hot in there and can cause some overheating problems in a standard RaspberryPi case. Luckily, the temperatures in the chamber are still lower than the temperatures the RPi reached - so only a larger heat sinks + active fans are required.

A solution here seems to be the GeeekPi Raspberry PI 4B Armor Case with Double Fan. But its heat sink design makes it hard to actually use self-adhesive Velcro tape on it. Something with a flat surface is needed for the tape. It is also important leave some space between the "flat surface" and the bottom of the heatsink to ensure that it can still do its job.

Additional materials required:

  • self-adhesive Velcro tape
  • 4x M2.5x16/20 screws

I would recommend to:

  • first cut out the correct size velcro tape (both hook + loop side)
  • attach two strips to the mount
  • if you attached the hook side to the mount then connect the loop side and remove the self adhesive-protection from the loop side (otherwise just switch loop + hook)
  • attach it now to the top surface of the electronics "compartment" of the Qidi X-Max

Please use only heat resistent material - normal PLA will just deformafter the chamber warmed up when printing with 120 degree celsius on the heated printbed.
