The Laptop Saver - A sub-desk level drink holder

October 12, 2024
Description
Working from home often results in beverages and computer equipment sharing the same desk. This is a perpetually hazardous arrangement (and I speak from experience).
This design is for a cup/drink holder that places the beverage below desk level. This means that mishaps should result in nothing more than getting the floor messy, while keeping the desk, computer, and other important things safe.
It should fit desks from 40mm thick to 8mm thick.
If you do have a very slippery table and are worried about it slipping, I'd recommend some silicone furniture pads, like these: https://www.bunnings.com.au/taskmaster-12-7-x-1-5mm-door-buffer-100-pack_p0290558
Print instructions
Print the clamp and screw with heavy perimeters and infill for strength. No support required.
If you're using it for hot drinks, don't print it from PLA.
Update 26/06/20: Added a wider (95mm dia) version of the cupholder for larger cups.
Update 12/6/21: Added a reversed bracket for people who want the clamping knob up top.
Update 22/01/23: Added a larger bracket for big desks (50mm).
Update 12/08/24: Added a clamp-screw that can be printed on its side.
Update: 13/10/24: Added an adaptable clamp that is suited for both thick and thin desks. The extension can be stored under the square bracket when not in use.
Most current and best option is:
- Cup-holder_95mm
- Bracket_square_for_desks 8-50mm
- Sideways Screw
- Clamp_adaptable
- And Clamp_adaptable_extender for narrow desks if you have a narrow desk
