TL;DR

Ongoing open project to use a cheap server rack as heavy enclosure for a silent secure printer cabinet.

  • added cover for power / filament entry to close the racks completely
  • added cover for top side openings

 

 

 

The spool rollers in this picture are made for any size of spools up to 10kg:

heavy spool holder => 0.25 up to 10kg

  • The rack enclosures are also usable for bambulab P1P 
  • need to find a solution for the poop at the backside

Motivation

Like to have a nice cabinet for my mk3 (or any other 3D printer) to print ASA and Co. 

  • cheap, based on used stuff
  • good looking (very important)
  • really heavy ~100 kg each
  • space for printers up to 50 x 50 x 50 cm
  • space for many spools inside the cabinet to hold them dry for free
  • silent, eliminate printers noise and the vibrations
  • modular activated charcoal filtering
  • LED illumination
  • Octopy / octo4a capable

If you think something could be done better nicer cooler, just collaborate. 

 

Evolution

  1. The ugly start, printer on an wobbly serving trolly.
  2. Found used telecommunication server racks
  3. paint job
  4. fall protection mat against noise and vibrations
  5. concrete  pavement slab
  6. magnetic spool hooks to hold spools on the side of the enclosure (model files)
  7.  backside spool mount for 6 spools (model files)

Magnetic Spool Hook

A simple hook to hold spools on the sides of the cabinet. With strong magnets up to 1.5 kg spools are possibly. Free to position on both sides.

I used this magnets (supermagnets.de):

40 mm x 20 mm x 5 mm

P1P a noise mimosa, ruined a textured print sheet with the first benchy, two updates later it works. closed source sucks!
