Description

This design was inspired by RyukyuD excellant idea for resolving tape storage. Unfortunately the design isn't particularly optomised and suffers from beginner 3d printing design mistakes, primarily: 3d printing every component even when off the shelf components (ie rods) are for cheaper and suitable; Far too many fillets; limited to one orientation, no source files or parametrisation, the hangers could foul each other as no offset included.

As a result  I set about redesigning from scratch while making it work for SKADIS pegboard as well as screwing directly into a wall or wood beam. 

The keyed slots are for my Skadis Universal Slot Nut System.  I recommend you use the SNS_TwistNut with 16mm M3 countersunk Machine Screws. https://www.google.com/search?q=16mm+M3+countersunk+bolts

Key Improvements

  • Optomised for 3d printing: Less fillets, Less unsupported overhangs, less material / quicker print time
  • Hanger uses a segment instead of a half circle so the same ID variant works for all common tape sizes

Please note the brackets can be directly screwed into a solid surface, if not using a Skadis pegboard.

Print settings

  • Tolerances are 0.2 mm (this can be adjusted in the fusion file)
  • Brackets use: 0.2mm layer height, 0.4 mm nozzel, 15% infill, 4 top & bottom layers and 3 perimters
  • Hangers: use same settings but the number of perimeters and layers can be reduced by 1 if you want to save a bit of print time at a slight increase in flexing.

Assembly

See the guide here (WILL ADD SOON)  for how to assemble a Skadis Universal Slot Nut System part. 

  1. Glue the slot nuts to the brackets and assemble revolving wings with the machine screws.
  2. Cut the rod to the required length.
  3. Assemble the rod, brackets and hangers in your preffered configuration
  4. Install the assembly and engage the slot nuts with an allen key.

Parts

Rod

The design uses 20mm rod, this can be any material (wood, metal or plastic) I recommend using heavy duty pvc round conduit as it is very cheap. Examples: https://www.toolstation.com/20mm-heavy-duty-pvc-round-conduit/p47837

If you live in a region with another standard size then the fusion file has a parameter that will adjust the models to fit.

Hangers

Each hanger comes in 5 width variants, the nominal width can hold a tape of 10mm less than its stated width, ie the 60 variant is for 50mm tape (ie duct tape) . They are appended by a number indicating the drop length (30mm, 50mm) 50 is the optimal for most tapes but for smaller roles like electrical tapes you may choose to use the 30.

Brackets

The brackets come in 3 types both as a constrained and easy access slot in versions, and are appended with a number indication the wall offset of the rod (40mm, 60mm, 80mm). 60 will work best for most applications.

  • SideBracket_Heavy: Uses a triangular slot pattern to reduce racking, use on heavy duty installations or if mounting the brakets to a surface that is not a peg board.
  • SideBracket_Light: Should suffice
  • SupportBracket: Used to provide support mid span on longer lengths

Miscellaneous add ons

  • Ring Spacer: if further spacing beteween the hangers is required this can be added between hangers
  • Optional Label Sleeves: Thes can be used to add colour coding and or 12mm labels to the tops of the hangers. 

Parameterisation

  • You can modify and adjust the hangers and the mounts to your specific  reuirments via the fusion file.
  • The fusion file can be used to adjust the parts for following key attributes.
