Description

When the power button fell off my electric shaver, I was a little sceptical as to whether it could be replaced with a part printed on an FDM printer. This is a rather small and fancy part. On the other hand, it's a quick print, so why not give it a try. The first attempt was a complete success, the button sits in place and the small locking elements have withstood several months of daily use.

Print settings:

  • Layer height: 0.1 mm
  • Perimeters: 3
  • Solid layers - top/bottom: 9 / 7
  • Infill: 15 %
  • Supports: No
  • Material: PETG

The button is splitted into two parts to optimize 3d printing. Height of assembled button should be 4 mm. Overhangs could slightly increase the height - in such case the hole surface should be smooth out.

I only carried out the installation once a few months ago, so the following procedure is only indicative.

Assembly:

  • place the shaver in the position as shown in the photo;
  • insert the spring that was placed under the original button;
  • turn the button so that the plane of symmetry of the button is parallel to the left-right direction;
  • if I remember correctly, the convexity of the small part inserted in the bottom hole must be on the right side (assembled should press the switch on the shaver);
  • first insert the locking elements on the left side of the button into the corresponding holes on the shaver;
  • gently press the right side of the button until it clicks into place.
