Description

These are side rollers for a Technical Innovations Pro-Dome 15 Observatory Dome.

Instead of spending roughly $90 on new side rollers that have a tendency to bind and rub I decided to attempt my own low friction design.

I designed these rollers around cheap and easy to get 608zz skateboard bearings. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0839212F4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Simply use a hammer on a hard surface to tap the bearings into place. I used PETG which worked great as it has an ability to stretch slightly rather than break like PLA when stressed.

Be sure to add a small washer under the bearing to lift it off the mounting surface and prevent the roller from rubbing. This should provide a significant improvement in ease of rotation to your dome. It did in my case anyway as the side rollers on my dome were starting to wear out and develop flat spots due to binding and rubbing.

I'm not sure how long the PETG with last but I suspect it should last several years and resist wear due to decreased friction.

Please let me know of any improvements I could make to the design.
