Description

I have an old Optima DELUXE PROFESSIONAL essential oil nebulizer / diffuser that is 30+ years old and the pump still works great.
The old pump is rated at 5000 cc/min at 4.0 PSI

The glass nebulizer however has seen better days and is very fragile and clogs.  They wanted $30.00-46.00 to replace just the hand blown glass section (that's a whole roll of filament).

So I designed my own nebulizer / diffuser section now each oil or liquid can have their own container so that the oils won't mix together and create strange scents.  I designed / printed a fix so its easy to fix clogs along with the ability to use it with any ordinary DC air pump.

Printed with
Revo 0.4 and 0.6 nozzle
With PETG and Polypropelene (PP).
100% infill
note: some supports are needed, I added the 3mf files that shows this.

How to assemble:

-1- Parts grouped:

-2- Assembled sections:

-3- Connect parts together:

-4- Final:

The theory of how it works is based on Bernoulli's principle -Venturi Effect.  A high speed flow can create a low pressure zone that sucks up a liquid. This is demonstrated in this video, where the air blowing across the open end of a straw immersed in water creates a low pressure zone, causing the liquid to push itself up through the straw. When this liquid meets the blast of air, it breaks up into a fine spray.

Some notes:
To create a better air tight seal with the bottom straw you can melt bees / candle wax over the top to give a better seal with the threads  (just cover the top air hole before you do, so you wont clog them up).  Also friction welding or a glue gun may work.

Plans for next version:
-Different nozzles that create different angles at the top.

-Make screw / snap on / cone angle shape version of nebulizer to M8 part.

-Adding a coil and dc step-up module to nebulizer to create an electric field.  This has shown to have beneficial effects. (in-process)

-Using Weak Electric Fields to Make Virus-Killing Face Masks
Beyond masks, the findings raise the possibility of using weak electrical fields to curb the spread of viruses in many ways, such as purifying air in common spaces or disinfecting operating room surfaces, says study author Chandan Sen, director of the Indiana Center for Regenerative Medicine and Engineering at Indiana University School of Medicine. “Coronavirus is not the first or last virus that is going to disrupt our lives,” he says. “We’re thinking about bigger and broader approaches to utilize weak electric fields against virus infectivity.

-Electro-sprayed micro-droplets help kill bacteria and viruses
The electro-sprayed microdroplets encapsulate reactive oxygen species such as hydroxyl radicals, superoxides that are known to have an antimicrobial function. The encapsulation prolongs the life of reactive oxygen species, which enable the droplets to perform their antimicrobial function effectively. Prior research has already proven the antimicrobial and encapsulation effects of electro-sprayed droplets.

-Exposure to extremely low-frequency magnetic field affects biofilm formation by cystic fibrosis pathogens.

-Pulsed electrical fields destroy antibiotic-resistant bacteria infecting burn injuries.

-Microbial Growth Inhibition by Alternating Electric Fields

-Enhanced seed germination and plant growth by atmospheric pressure cold air plasma: combined effect of seed and water treatment.  (The Ebner Effect type of device)
