Description
I want to add additional shelfs for an Ikea cabinet, but found the holes for shelf pins on that cabinet is around 3.4 mm in diameter. This is a really hard-to-find size. Most common shelf pins are 5 mm.
So I made a model to print the body of the shelf pin, and use a 1/8 inch steel rod from Home Depot to cut the metal pins (a hacksaw will do) and glue in place. 1/8 inch is around 3.18 mm so it works well although not a super tight fit for the 3.4 mm holes.
This type of hybrid shelf pin is much stronger than an entirely printed plastic pin. If you want to put your precious delicate collections on the shelf, this is the way to go.
